Youth Service Hours

Who: Students, rising 6th grade and up, needing service hours or anyone wanting to volunteer at our sale.

What: WORK at our sale in three hour shifts, under the supervision of either Mrs. Dunlap, Mrs. Gleason or Mrs. Greer. Eat prior to coming, as there are no breaks given.

When: See the list of work shifts and job descriptions below. These hours are before and during our sale, July 20-24, 2010. The shifts listed below are all three-hour shifts.

Where: All shifts take place at the Sacred Heart School gym, located in the back of the school. The school is located at 711 S. Northshore Dr. Knoxville, 37919.

How: You need to sign up in advance, by emailing Mrs. Kirstin Kropilak at Kmaek@aol.com. Please provide the worker’s name and a contact phone number. We need a specific number of volunteers on each shift. It is a first come-first serve basis. Once you arrive for your shift, you need to sign in first. After your shift, you need to sign out. (To receive service hours credit, you must sign in and out.) If you want to work more than one shift, it must be preapproved. There will be no consecutive shifts unless approved by the co-chairs beforehand. This will avoid the need for breaks and kids wandering around unsupervised.

Guidelines:

  • The reason for signing up online is to allow us to fill the shifts as needed. We need plenty of help throughout the sale and we need to have the help divided equally on each shift.
  • If you show up without signing up ahead and the shift is filled, you might be asked to leave and return at a different time. We can’t have too many helpers and not enough work.
  • You are not guaranteed service hours if you didn’t sign up ahead.
  • Please be flexible and do what’s asked of you.
  • All shifts are in the SHCS gym. There will be no wandering outside or in the school.
  • No cell phone use during your shift; this includes texting.
  • Wear tennis shoes for physical shifts (moving, carrying, loading, etc.)
  • We will be happy to sign service hour sheets once we confirm your hours. We will also be giving SHCS and KCHS a list of those that gave service hours for them to confirm with forms handed in.

Work Shifts:

Tues. July 20, 6-9pm (8 people) Manual labor: moving & cleaning racks & tables. Cleaning & organizing the areas for merchandise. Put up signage.

Wed. July 21, 9am-12 noon (6 people) Participant Drop-Off. Help with carrying items, inspecting merchandise & putting items in correct places. **This shift is now full!**

Thurs. July 22, 5:30pm-8:30pm (6 people) Participant Sale. Help bag items at check out, supervise “hold” area, carry items, organize areas & keep gym clean.

Friday, July 23, 8:30am-11:30am (10 people), 11:30-2:30 (6 people), 2:30-5:30 (6 people) Public Sale. Supervise “hold” area, check racks for correct items, organize areas, keep gym clean, help carry items.

Sat. July 24, 7:30am-10:30am (6 people), 10:30-1:30 (8 people), 1:00-4:00 (8 people). Morning is Half-Price Sale. See description for Public Sale. From noon on, it’s a fast-paced and physical shift of sorting, donating, tear down & clean-up.
